ABYSS BREWING

Deep in the cellar, ABYSS Brewing was born.....

Towards the end of 2016, Andrew our landlord scaled up his home brew hobby and installed a small 1/2 barrel brewery in the cellar. He spent a lot of time down there turning out some crafty brews to serve to our super keen customers.

Lewes's first craft beer brewery was born!

Today Andrew, in cahoots with his art school buddy Andy have scaled up the brewing and now have the ABYSS Brewery + Tap, across town in a Victorian malthouse off Daveys Lane, serving fresh craft beer in house and to bars and retailers around Lewes, Brighton and beyond.

Every week we showcase two ABYSS Brewing beers, the Pelham Arms is the testing station for new flavours too, so you might be lucky and try a new one first! They are served from Thursday and when they are gone, they are gone! So be quick if you want to try some.

getting to us

BY FOOT or BIKE – The Pelham Arms is perfectly placed for visitors enjoying a day in Lewes wandering around shops, or for walkers exploring the South Downs and South Down Way. A favourite weekend walk of regulars from Brighton is to catch the bus to Ditchling Beacon (Number 79) and walk over the Downs via Black Cap to Lewes, come in for lunch/supper then catch the bus back to Brighton from outside the pub.

BY BUS – We have a bus stop right outside the pub (The stop is called the Pelham Arms) Last buses to Uckfield/Tunbridge Wells/Brighton (Numbers 28/29/29A/29B) are just after 11pm and run regularly throughout the day. (So this is by far the best method of getting to us if you live out of town) click here for timetables.

BY TRAIN – We are just a 10-15 minute walk from Lewes train station.

BY CAR – If travelling by car, find us with google maps above, our post code is BN7 1XL.

PARKING – We have a small car park at the rear of the pub for 5 cars, we can reserve a space for you if you are disabled. Otherwise there is pay and display on street parking outside the pub and a pay and display car park just a short walk down the road at the White Lion car park (left at the traffic lights by the Baltica pottery shop).

PARKING EVENINGS & WEEKENDS - you can park at the East Sussex council office across the road, drive down the little lane directly opposite the pub, by the church, its free after 6pm and Sundays, on Saturday it costs £1 (last time we checked!).

PARKING WEEKDAYS (Cheaper than the street) - There is a huge cheap pay and display car park 4 minutes walk from the pub at the County Hall visitor parking, access via St Anne's Crescent
